Renaissance Award

(2013-14, 2015-16, 2016-2017 & 2017-18)

"Outstanding skill in the area of design, engineering, execution or performance"

On our journey we sometimes encounter exceptional travelers who entertain and enlighten us along the way. The Renaissance Award recognizes those among us who demonstrate extraordinary amounts of effort and preparation in their solutions or outstanding skill in engineering, design or performance. While the destination is creativity, these fellow travelers make the journey itself memorable.
Our Team Received the Renaissance Award for the Technical Challenge at 2013-14 & 2015-16 North Sound Regional Tournament as well as at 2016-17 at both the regional and Washington State tournaments

Comment from the Appraisers:

The Design of the Team’s Containers, detection equipment and removal apparatus blew us away. The fantastic use of Circuitry, Magnetism,  and electric motors was executed exceedingly well, in SPRITE of their age. The efficient and organized design, independent construction, and brilliant execution came together for a solution that was truly “Out of the World”

Instant Challenge

At a tournament, a team will receive an Instant Challenge and the materials with which to solve it. The team members must think on their feet by applying appropriate skills to produce a solution in a period of just 5 to 8 minutes. In a world with growing cultural connections, increased levels and types of communication, and a new need for real-time teamwork and problem solving, the ability to solve problems quickly is becoming increasingly critical. Instant Challenges are performance-based, task-based, or a combination of the two. Although each Instant Challenge has different requirements, all Instant Challenges reward teams for their teamwork. Instant Challenges are kept confidential until the day of the Tournament.

Central Challenge (Technical - Creature Feature)

Each year, Destination Imagination releases seven challenges (Technical, Scientific, Fine Arts, Improvisational and Structural, Service Learning and Early Learning) geared to specific learning objectives. These challenges are then solved by teams.

Our Team Solved Technical Challenge  (Creature Feature).

Teams had to Build a creature that uses technical methods to perform team-chosen actions.. Present a story of adventure with the creature as a character. Use technical methods to demonstrate features of a world where the story is set. Create and present two Team Choice Elements that show off the team’s interests, skills, areas of strength and talents.

Types of Challenges

Team solutions are assessed at a regional tournament, an affiliate (state, province or country) tournament or Global Finals. Every year, local volunteers help run over 200 Destination Imagination tournaments around the world.

At the tournament, Destination Imagination teams will solve two types of Challenges: Team Challenges and Instant Challenges. Teams will perform their Challenge solutions to a group of Appraisers. Destination Imagination Appraisers are local volunteers who have been trained to  assess the Challenges.
